Why aren't there any MUAC to identify SAM in children between 5 years - 12 years?
There are MUAC thresholds for use in this age-group. They tend to be in national (clinical) guidelines for ARV or TB programs and may vary from setting to setting. Common thresholds are 135 mm (for the 5 - 9 years old age-group) and 160 mm (for the 10 - 13 years old group). Unlike the thresholds used for younger children these thresholds tend to be based on reference populations rather than functional outcome. You could use MUAC/A or MUAC/H (QUAC) in this age-group.
